Well, it has been one full week since surgery and all the doctors say Dean is doing great! He is now eating solid foods (very small amounts, several times a day) and has been up walking around the halls. He has only been taking half of his pain medicine doses because the pain has been manageable with that amount and he also does not like being sleepy all the time.
We got the report on the lymph nodes. The doctor said he removed 48 of them and only one showed any cancer. We are praying that was the only one. Dean will undergo radiation and chemo as follow up treatments. These treatments most likely will not begin until the end of August but we will know more in about a month when we go for our initial visit.
I also asked the doctor how much Dean’s pancreas was enlarged compared to the normal size of one and he said that it was triple the size of a normal pancreas. (I guess that would explain the back pain that Dean was experiencing.)
If things continue as well as they have been, Dean may get to go home Thursday. I’m ready for him to be home but I definitely don’t want to rush things. But I trust his doctor, who has been wonderful through this whole thing. We could not have asked for better.
As many of you know, Dean’s sister, Jennifer has written a prayer to be prayed each day for Dean through this and I have included today’s, tomorrow’s and Thursday’s below.
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Dear Lord, may Dean not fear or be anxious about what he encounters today, but BELIEVE that you WILL strengthen him and help him and uphold him. There’s no better place to be than “held” in your righteous right hand. Thank you Lord!
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair… Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:8, 16, 18
God, may Dean be encouraged today in knowing that you are inwardly renewing him at this very moment…..no matter what else may be going on around him. Help his eyes to stay focused on You and all the riches he has because of You….he was chosen before the creation of the world, he is holy and blameless, he is adopted as your son, he is redeemed, he is forgiven, he has been lavished with Your grace. And all of this was given to him freely! May these riches be his “reality” today.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
God, how we praise You that You are the God of hope! Our only hope is You! May Dean have peace and joy today in believing in You alone…the source of hope. We put our hope and trust in You alone for Dean’s healing and recovery.
Please continue to pray for Dean’s recovery, energy level and food intake and that his new “plumbing” will tolerate it.
Again, I want to say thank you for all the prayers, cards, e-mails, and phone calls. They mean so much to Dean and our family. We are so blessed!
I will continue to update every few days until Dean is well enough to continue with it.
I’m looking forward to posting the next update with his discharge date!
